Amazon Works on an AI Code Generation Tool

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is developing a new AI-powered code generation tool, internally known as “Kiro”, according to a report from Business Insider citing internal documents. Kiro is designed to generate code in near real-time using prompts and existing data, connecting with AI agents to streamline development. The tool is expected to support both web and desktop applications, feature multimodal capabilities, and integrate with third-party AI agents. Beyond code generation, Kiro can also draft technical design documents, identify potential issues, and optimize code, making it a comprehensive development tool. AWS already offers Q Developer, an AI-powered coding assistant similar to GitHub Copilot. The company initially planned to launch Kiro by late June, but the timeline may have shifted. AI-driven coding tools are gaining momentum in the tech industry. Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, has reportedly secured funding at a $9 billion valuation, while Windsurf is rumored to be in acquisition talks with OpenAI in a $3 billion deal.
